Hurley, Wisconsin

A Place Where Everyone Can Play

Nestled in Northern Iron County, the Hurley area is an outdoor adventurist paradise.  With access to hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails, downhill skiing, inland lakes to catch that record breaking fish, cross county ski and snow shoe trails, everyone has plenty to keep them active.

Hurley's historic past of mining, logging and stories from Prohibition gives Silver Street some exciting stories.  Visit the museum and take a walk right into the past.  Explore a variety of flavors at local eateries.

Work where you play!  As a telecommuter friendly community, the area welcomes small businesses to relocate here.  The City of Hurley Industrial Park has facilities available for light manufacturing and warehouse operations.  Ready to build sites are available with city sewer and water, 3 phase power and natural gas services and digital switching telecommunications.

The Hurley K-12 School District provides a progressive and diverse education in a safe, healthy and inclusive environment.  Students in our district have access to laptops and teachers have smart boards in their classrooms.  The Northwoods Manufacturing Program provides a comprehensive education in manufactured products of woods and metals.

The Plummer Mine Headframe is the last of the steel giants on the Penokee Iron Range. Rising 80 feet high it is the only remaining mine head frame in Wisconsin. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Opened in 1904, the Plummer Mine shaft angles downward from the headframe following a vein of ore into the earth to a depth of 2,367 feet. The Plummer Mine closed in 1924 and is the last such headframe standing in Wisconsin. From an engine house, cables ran up over the wheels at the top of the headframe and were attached to elevator cars, lowering miners and equipment underground and pulling ore cars back to the surface.

Located on Hwy 77 between Pence and Iron Belt, WI.
