Hurley, One of a Kind

The greater Hurley area is home to some pretty impressive, one-of-a-kind features and world records. Your visit to the area can include:

  • Seeing the remnants of the world's deepest iron mine at Montreal where early settlers worked nearly a mile underground.
  • Seeing the world's tallest Indian, a 50+ foot fiberglass and steel statue of Hiawatha in neighboring Ironwood;
  • Seeing, fishing, swimming, boating, and sailing in the largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Superior, which contains 10% of the world's fresh water and as much water as the other four great lakes combined.
  • Seeing and even climbing to the top of Copper Peak Ski Flying Hill, the largest ski jump structure ever constructed in the world; one of only six constructed in the world designated as ski "flying" and the only one of it's kind in the western hemisphere (it rises 241 feet above the crest of a 365 foot rock outcrop historically known as Chippewa Hill and is open to visitors during the summer months or when hosting international competitions). See more about Copper Peak.
