Trail Conditions

All Iron County all-terrain vehicle trails are OPEN!

Trail #6 will remain closed until further notice.

Mandatory ATV Certification (Safety Training)

All ATV operators, including non-residents, who are at least 12 years of age and who are born on or after January 1, 1988 must obtain a DNR safety training certificate in order to ride Wisconsin trails. Prior to this change, 12 year olds and up were allowed to ride without the certification as long as they were accompanied by their parents. Wisconsin honors other state certificates issued by a government agency.  You are also required to wear a helmet under the age of 18.  Contact your local DNR or check the DNR Website for class availability at http://www.dnr.state.wi.us.

Non-Resident ATV Trail Pass

A Non-resident ATV Trail Pass has been implemented in Wisconsin. All ATVs that are registered outside of Wisconsin will be required to visibly and permanently display a Non-resident ATV Trail Pass on the forward half of the ATV. The Trail Pass will cost $18 and will be available through any license agent (ie where you would purchase hunting & fishing licenses, etc...). Great news regarding the out-of-state ATV registration process! The registration process now provides an exemption for an out-of-state registration if the ATV displays a nonresident decal and if it is not in Wisconsin for a period of more than 15 consecutive days. Previously ATVs from states without a registration program (ie Illinois and Michigan) were required to be registered in Wisconsin in order to ride the trails - the trail permit did not apply to these ATVs.

Noise Level Restrictions

All ATVs are prohibited from emitting noise that is more than 96 decibels on the "A" scale. The DNR now has a field-friendly stationary test procedure for testing an ATV's compliance.
